My name is Stephanie Lynn Barkley. I reside near Syracuse, NY. I like to make art, take pictures, go for long walks and camp. I like birds, to socialize, and the way the air smells in the woods. I like tea and coffee, love nature. Owls fascinate me. I consider myself an artist. I have no idea what I'm doing with my life--but I'm majoring in Fine Arts, hoping it might lead to an Art Therapy degree.

The stories you hear…

So, there is this customer that comes into my workplace every single weekend. Zeke is what we call ‘a regular’. He’s probably a little over 70, but looks and acts like he is in his late 50s. And he’s full of stories.
The way he met his wife was almost like you see in the movies. He was the wild type—for his time. When he started to ‘date’ his future wife he described her as very conservative and thought that she was religious. She only shook his hand at the end of the night for 10-12 dates. Zeke called her ‘a slow mover’. When he actually was able to give her a good night kiss, it was only a peck. So, he went off for a long while and dated other girls who were, as he put it, ‘fast movers’. When he ever got to kiss them he could only think of his future wife. It really got to him so he consulted his priest—who told him that meant he was going to end up loving her deeply, maybe even marrying her. He ended up seeing her again at a bar with family later on in his life.
Soon enough that very priest married them. He even asked Zeke if that was the lady he was talking about. His future wife told him that his rebelliousness was going to hurt him one day in response to what kind of motorcycle/car he wanted. Sure enough their oldest daughter ended up bringing home that same kind of motorcycle/car that he had. His wife said, “Don’t you remember what I said 20-some odd years ago? Karma got back at you.” Zeke made his daughter bring it back. >.<
He has so many happy stories about his family. He’s going to be married to his wife for 58 years this September.

I just found out that his wife has had Alzheimer’s for 4 years when he came into Denny’s today extremely upset. You could tell he was crying. All he could say is he had a bad visit.
But, he can still be so happy when talking about her. As if she’s right there. They way he talks about her. He adores her. She got whatever she wanted and he made sure of it. He loves her so much.

How many people get that in life?
